Boston Rising is committed to building strategic partnerships with organizations that share our passion to clear the way for the Rising Class. We also see great potential in offering incubation to what we call “civic start-ups.”

Small Can Be Big believes in a “Charity of One”: You and your social networks can make a BIG difference. Boston Rising believes the same thing, and sees promise in the Small Can Be Big model of funding specific, immediate needs of families facing homelessness through small direct gifts from people and their social networks. Small Can Be Big was started by a for-profit company, Boathouse Media. Boston Rising has joined forces with Boathouse this year to give Small Can Be Big nonprofit backing as it goes to scale. We believe such non-traditional philanthropy is key to the future of the Rising Class.

Boston Rising and Root Cause share a similar vision: direct resources toward what works in order to clear the way for the Rising Class. Root Cause believes in creating “social impact markets”—mechanisms that provide the infrastructure, information, and incentives to ensure investments drive real social impact. Our partnership focuses on using Root Cause’s experience in key practice areas to help people think about how best to support great work.

CommonPlace is about building neighbor to neighbor connections. So is Boston Rising. Commonplace uses a .com approach to achieve a .org outcome – neighbors networked together to solve problems, share resources, and tell each other what’s going on. When CommonPlace wanted to try to expand to its first major urban neighborhood, Boston Rising stepped in to collaborate. The result was a summer of on-the-ground organizing and a lot of great learning about how to bring web strategies to urban communities.
